The Journey Community Workshop
Origin Story
The stories we tell ourselves about our past shape who we are today. Many of us carry wounds, regrets, or narratives from earlier experiences that continue to influence our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
When we dwell excessively on the past, we might find ourselves caught in cycles of:
- Ruminating over mistakes or missed opportunities
- Holding onto resentment or grief
- Defining ourselves by our traumas rather than our resilience
- Allowing old patterns to dictate current choices
Through compassionate exploration, we can reframe our relationship with the past—not to erase it, but to understand how it has shaped us and to recognize we are no longer bound by it.
The Present Moment
The present moment is where life actually happens, yet many of us struggle to truly be here. Instead, our minds wander between past regrets and future anxieties, missing the only moment we can truly experience or change.
Common struggles with the present include:
- Feeling disconnected from your body and immediate experiences
- Automatic reactions based on past conditioning
- Difficulty finding joy or peace in everyday moments
- Overwhelming stress that narrows your focus and perspective
Learning to anchor yourself in the present through mindfulness practices can transform your relationship with yourself and others, allowing you to respond to life with intention rather than reaction.
The Future
Our relationship with the future profoundly impacts our mental wellbeing. While planning and anticipation are natural human capacities, they can become sources of distress when dominated by fear and uncertainty.
Future-oriented concerns often manifest as:
- Persistent worry about what might happen
- Decision paralysis from fear of making the wrong choice
- Perfectionism driven by anxiety about potential failure
- Difficulty committing to present actions due to uncertainty
By developing a healthier relationship with the future—one based on possibility rather than prediction—we can move forward with hope and resilience rather than dread.
